I thought that was a really clever way to turn it into something more interesting than just a beefed-up retread of the original. And I know some people hated it, but I liked the way that they (without getting too spoilery) played with the concept of a remake. Getting to know some of the side characters more was nice. However, despite it being drawn-out, I liked what they did with the story. I was ready for it to be over by the end, and didn't even bother doing any of the last batch of side quests. But I agree that it didn't need to be that long. My memories of the original are vague because I played it such a long time ago, but it was definitely cool seeing locations and scenes from that game re-interpreted with snazzy new graphics. I got used to it after a while but I did find it strange and occasionally off-putting. It's weird because the graphics, while still stylized, are so high fidelity that it feels strange to have everyone still acting like they're in an anime. I wouldn't say I loved it, but I think it was more enjoyable than if they'd just stuck with traditional turn-based combat. Combat isn't like God of War, but the repetitive stagger stuff certainly reminded me of the game whilst playing.įor me the combat was a pretty good melding of real-time and turn-based combat and I found it pretty engaging and exciting. I feel so weird after seeing all of the praise for what I think is an awful reinterpretation of a classic.ĮDIT: Incorrect wording on my part, my bad.

If anyone here actually enjoyed this game, can you please explain why and how it's any better than the original whatsoever? Thank you. Yeah, the game looks nice, but none of it screams originality whatsoever. It's just turning one of my most beloved RPG's ever into a copy-paste hack-and-slash title with no creative integrity behind it. I wish I could elaborate more, but I can't. There was never any need to stretch Midgar to 35-40 hours long. Terrible voice acting, terribly optimised for pretty much any hardware configuration, a borderline racist interpretation of Barret that is stereotyped to death and just overly-long for no reason.

Hack-and-slash combat that's (sort of) akin to God of War's stagger system in a lot of ways, but somehow way less enjoyable than ever.
